About the program
Signature components of the Theatre Program include Theatre Scholarships for incoming freshman, Theatre minor, English major with Theatre concentration, Summer Pre-College Theatre Institute for high school students and Marist College Club of Theatre Arts (MCCTA).
The English – Theatre program from Marist College includes the aforementioned English major with a concentration in Theatre, Theatre minor, Theatre Scholarships, Summer Pre-College Theatre Institute, as well as theatre internships, Annual Theatre Hall of Fame & Alumni Reunion, and a varied season of performing/production opportunities. A host of theatre courses are offered each year, including Acting, Stagecraft, Directing and Playwriting.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate fundamental skills and techniques required of a modern theatre practitioner: performer, designer, technician, or manager.
- Students will learn how to work collaboratively in a variety of production experiences under a defined deadline.
- Students will apply critical thinking and analytical skills to dramatic literature as it applies to production, performance, design, or management.
- Students will communicate in writing informed critical assessments of theatrical performances, including aspects of artistic and technical production.
Careers
Recent theatre alumni have pursued a wide range of career paths, including Public Relations, Law, Counseling, Publishing, Human Resources, Marketing and Advertising, Business and Theatre Management, Broadcast Journalism, Sports Reporting, Film Production, and Film & Television Casting. Our students often pursue rigorous graduate study in theatre and film, with recent placements at Sarah Lawrence College, American Film Institute, New York University and Emerson College.
